Tips For Making The Most Of Your Time At A Coffee Shop
- Choose your cafe wisely: Look for cafes that cater to remote workers, with comfortable seating, strong WiFi, available electrical outlets, and a suitable work environment.
- Dress appropriately: While not necessary to wear business attire, ensure you are dressed comfortably and presentably. Consider bringing a jacket in case the cafe has strong air conditioning.
- Come prepared: Complete your morning routine before heading to the cafe. Have breakfast and exercise to be in work-mode when you arrive.
- Select a suitable seat: Find a seat that allows you to work comfortably without inconveniencing others. Keep your belongings organized and within your workspace. Be mindful of the distance to the nearest electrical outlet to avoid hazards.
- Plan, organize, and set limits: Have a clear agenda and gather all necessary materials before opening your laptop. Avoid setting overly ambitious goals, considering potential distractions or limited seating in the cafe.
- Learn How to Optimize Productivity: One effective strategy is to take breaks from your work or study session. This approach helps combat fatigue, boosts creativity, and enhances motivation. However, it’s important to strike a balance and avoid excessive pauses that can hinder your overall productivity.
- Utilize Valuable Resources: When working remotely from a coffee shop, certain tools can significantly enhance your productivity and focus. Consider investing in a reliable pair of headphones to create a conducive working environment. Additionally, a wireless mouse can streamline computer navigation without taking up much space. Instead of relying on multiple electrical outlets, bring a power bank to charge your phone or use a USB connection from your laptop. Don’t forget the simplicity and effectiveness of a pen and notepad for your workday.
- Minimize Phone Distractions: Unless immediate accessibility is crucial for conversations with your employer or clients, it’s advisable to put your phone on silent or airplane mode. Coffee shops already have ample distractions, and avoiding the temptation to use your phone can help maintain focus on your tasks.
- Engage with Others Occasionally: Coffee shops often attract individuals studying or working remotely. If you consistently see familiar faces during your visits, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. These environments provide valuable networking opportunities with like-minded individuals who may be taking similar classes or working in related industries. It’s one of the many advantages of studying or working in coffee shops.
- Treat the Coffee Shop as Your Workspace: Approach your time at the coffee shop with the same level of professionalism you would bring to a job site. Once you arrive, consider it as if you are clocking in for work. Stay focused on your tasks, use your time effectively, and avoid unnecessary distractions to make the most of your coffee shop experience.

Why are there no late-night coffee shops in Boston and Cambridge?
Explorateur cafe was one of the best coffee shops to work from! I’m still pissed they closed it down for a Guy Fieri restaurant
No Ogawa? That’s 100% my favorite place to work. Amazing staff and specialty drinks. Also the only good latte art in the city.
Most cafe’s don’t see it as an economically viable decision. There isn’t enough clientele for late night coffee in most neighborhoods, and they don’t want the added electricity, and staffing costs for the little business it would bring in.
They were hands down my favorite coffee shop in Boston, I was so sad when they closed.
Thank you for letting me know this information.
